Pan African Resources

Pan African Resources

Pan African Resources fully owns Barberton Mines Limited. Barberton Mines Limited(BML) is situated in the Province of Mpumalanga on the eastern borders of South Africa adjacent to both Swaziland and Moçambique, some 370 km east of Johannesburg and 35 km south of Nelspruit.

BML comprises three operating mines: Sheba, New Consort and Fairview. The orebodies in these operations are hosted by the rocks of the Barberton Supergroup, and consist of a series of hydrothermal, fault/shear-hosted zones of mineralisation in the Archean meta-sedimentary rocks of the Barberton Greenstone Belt. The Sheba Fault Zone developed between the Ulundi and Eureka synclines. The forecast remaining life of each of the mines have constantly defied estimates as they continue to  discover new resources.

The BML operations are the largest Archaean greenstone operation in Southern Africa producing at an average grade of approximately 10 grams per ton, which makes it one of the richer mines in South Africa. The current operating costs of approximately R725/ton are high by industry norms and reflect the complex infrastructure of the mine and scale of operation. Although mine life of the operations is approximately 10 years it is  reviewed yearly by management.
